At OrthoConnecticut, Dr. Jennifer Wood specializes in hip and knee replacement. She uses modern techniques tailored to each patient, including robotic-assisted surgery (Mako), direct anterior hip replacement, and muscle-respecting approaches such as the subvastus technique for knee replacement when appropriate.

The focus is on precision and helping patients recover and return to activity safely and confidently. When appropriate, surgery can be performed in an outpatient setting, allowing patients to go home the same day.

Care is tailored to each patient, with thoughtful technique selection and attention to long-term function.

Dr. Wood's Approach Hip & Knee Pain

Not all hip or knee pain requires surgery.

The first step is identifying the source of the problem and building the right treatment plan—whether that means nonoperative care or surgical treatment.

The goal is simple: reduce pain, restore function, and get you back to doing what you enjoy.

Nonoperative Hip & Knee Care

Surgery is not always the right place to start.

Treatment options may include:

  • Anti-inflammatory medications

  • Injections

  • Physical therapy

  • Diagnostic imaging when needed

Knee Replacement

Robotic-assisted technology (Mako) is routinely used to support precise planning and implant positioning.

Total Knee Replacement

For advanced arthritis affecting the entire knee, causing pain, stiffness, and limited mobility.

Partial Knee Replacement

For arthritis limited to one part of the knee, preserving more of the natural joint when appropriate.

Outpatient Surgery

When appropriate, surgery may be performed in an outpatient setting, allowing patients to return home the same day.

Approach to Care

Care starts with understanding what’s actually going on—not just on imaging, but how it’s affecting your daily life.

Surgery is not always the first step. The focus is on identifying the right problem and choosing the most appropriate treatment, whether that involves nonoperative care or surgery.

When surgery is needed, it is approached with precision and thoughtful technique selection, using methods that support recovery and long-term function.

Throughout the process, patients are given clear guidance and a structured plan so they know what to expect at every stage.

The goal is simple: help you move better, feel better, and get back to doing what you enjoy.
